Snowed In? Let's Play Checkers!

(Brother J.J. and Nana react to a special surprise, Christmas, 1966.)

Who wouldn't scream with delight discovering the entire day will be spent with Nana! Cards, checkers, puzzles. NON STOP FUN!

Just don't dig any holes in the yard and everything will be fine.

(Left: Author, Above: Jim at the motor lodge)

I had the seersucker first. I was fairly sure of it. Guess not. Jim's pants ride up a little higher than mine, though.

Breaking into Song

November 1950. Paul (Poppy) far left, singing at Teacher's Convention in Springfield Auditorium. Claude Lagace at piano. Mr. Holedrige conducting. -- Grandma's notes on the back of the photo

(Author, left, with carnival crew. I didn't want to wear makeup)

Dutch Carnival, Heerlen, 1992. A colleague described this scene in Maastricht: "I was leaving for work around 8:30am and I saw these three clowns sitting on the curb. Two were keeled over and the other was vomiting. Fullmakeup. Big shoes. Big red wigs. I wish I hadn't seen that."
